  4. Hi Scott,

    Thx for your note….it’s been my pleasure. too.

    In 1962, after RPI and before grad school,. a buddy and I went on an 80-day western jaunt. It’s true that we had a car, but we did a lot of hiking, fishing. We never slept in a bed, and lived on $0.80/person-day for food (mostly trout, pancakes, jello), We had extended back-country adventures in Rocky Mtn, Kings Canyon. and Glacier, and two in the Winds. We backpacked Roy’s folbot into Quartz Lake in Glacier, and climbed Fremont Pk in the Winds.
    Is the image from Fremont?

    Ummm…is a book in your plan?

      What a great adventure you had back in 62. Pretty unusual back then, I’ll bet.

      I know Fremont Peak, we did it back in ‘89. It’s the impressive rounded peak on the left in the photo, which was taken from Gannet Peak in 2017. That completed my trifecta of the highest peaks in Wyoming, I did the Grand Teton on my version of your postgraduate junket in ‘77.

      I don’t know about a book, we’ll see if the blog turns out to be book worthy once the trip is done.

    Dang…I should have triangulated that image. As we’ve discussed, I’ve climbed Gannett and Mt Woodrow Wilson in 1968. Will enjoy your climbing log. As revenge, I can send my trip notes from my high point adventure, 38 days on the Dubawnt River in 1969. When you’re ready!

    Congratulations on your retirement. I’m so glad you’ll get this chance to take such an amazing trip!

    I appreciate your encouragement so many years ago as I pursued a career in nursing. As my physician, mentor, and friend you played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career in the medical field.

    Congratulations on your realizing this wonderful dream.

    In 1967, living in Milwaukee, I told my parents that I was going to Europe, would probably stay for up to 1 year if I found a job. Well, I stayed in Switzerland for 17 years, and almost failed to come back. One summer in Austria I took part part in a really basic course of mountain climbing at the Braunschweiger Huette in Tyrol, and our high point was as we climbed to the Wildspitze summit, 3772 meters, not very far from where the remains of Oetzi were discovered in 1991.

    Enjoy your great adventure, but don’t stay for 17 years!

    1. Hi Martha Jane, I am in New Hampshire, on the second day of my shakedown cruise. I have not left until now because of the coronavirus situation, and it is still not safe to go anywhere but Northern New England.

      I haven’t posted anything recently, but I hope to do so soon. In the meantime, thanks for your interest and I hope you are well.

  12. Hi from very HOT Palm Desert where John and I are this Summer and sadly not in Vermont! I’m signing on so that John. And I can follow you 😉 we are big fans of VBT and took 6 wonderful trips with them. Mind you, pretty cushy way of biking compared to yours!
    Thinking about you and wishing you safety and lots of wonderful adventures. Can’t wait to read your entries as you begin your dream trip.
